Two Major Glyphosate Technical Manufacturers Make Strong Entry into the Bio-Breeding Herbicide Sector 06-17-2025

According to the latest report from AgroPages, the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals under China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently publicized a new list of pesticide products proposed for registration changes. Among them, Jiangsu Good Harvest Weien Agrochemical Co., Ltd.’s 37% glyphosate potassium salt aqueous solution and Lianyungang Liben Crop Science Co., Ltd.’s 41% glyphosate isopropylamine salt aqueous solution are proposed for expanded application to herbicide use in transgenic corn/soybean fields. This development marks the official entry of two leading domestic glyphosate technical manufacturers into the bio-breeding herbicide sector, injecting new momentum into industry growth.

Liben Crop: 41% Glyphosate Isopropylamine Salt Aqueous Solution Targets Four Major Transgenic Crop Varieties
Lianyungang Liben Crop Science Co., Ltd. proposes to expand the application scope of its 41% glyphosate isopropylamine salt aqueous solution from weed control in citrus orchards to soybean fields with the transformed varieties Zhonghuang 6106 and DBN9004, as well as corn fields with DBN9936 and DBN9858. As a core domestic glyphosate producer, Liben Crop boasts an annual production capacity exceeding 50,000 tons. Its glyphosate technical adopts the internationally advanced IDA process and achieves full in-house production of key intermediates such as cyanic acid, formaldehyde, and phosphorous acid.

In terms of product portfolio, Liben Crop not only holds the registration certificate for 95% glyphosate technical from its subsidiary Inner Mongolia Lingsheng Crop Science Co., Ltd. but also offers diversified formulations including 33% glyphosate ammonium salt aqueous solution, 62% glyphosate isopropylamine salt aqueous solution, and 88% glyphosate ammonium salt soluble powder, catering to various application scenarios. Notably, the company also excels in the glufosinate sector: in 2022, it commenced production of 75,000 tons of glufosinate technical, supported by key raw materials such as diethyl methylphosphonite. Its design capacity for L-glufosinate reaches 80,000 tons, leveraging its industrial chain and regional energy advantages to build a low-carbon, high-efficiency production system. Currently, Liben Crop and its subsidiaries hold a full range of registration certificates for glufosinate/L-glufosinate, including 95% technical, 50% mother liquor, 200 g/L aqueous solution, and 90% L-glufosinate technical, showcasing a highly competitive product matrix.
Good Harvest: 37% Glyphosate Potassium Salt Aqueous Solution Targets Three Corn Varieties and Soybean Sector
Jiangsu Good Harvest Weien Agrochemical Co., Ltd.’s 37% glyphosate potassium salt aqueous solution was originally registered for weed control in lily fields and non-cropland areas. The proposed expansion covers corn transformed varieties DBN9936, DBN9858, and DBN3601T(DBN9936 × DBN9501), as well as the soybean transformed variety DBN9004. As one of China’s first adopters of the IDA process for glyphosate production, Good Harvest has achieved internationally leading standards with its proprietary air oxidation green process, producing glyphosate technical with 98% purity and extremely low impurity levels, earning recognition from authoritative GLP laboratories and multinational corporations in the UK and US.

Regarding registration certificates, Good Harvest currently holds 33 valid glyphosate-related registrations, including 95% glyphosate technical, 98% glyphosate ammonium salt technical, and a full range of formulations (aqueous solutions, soluble concentrates, and soluble granules) with active ingredient contents ranging from 30% to 72% (amine salts, isopropylamine salts, and potassium salts). In recent years, the company has actively expanded into the glufosinate sector, securing registrations for 95% glufosinate technical and 90% L-glufosinate ammonium salt technical, along with three single-formulation and one mixed-formulation product, establishing a diversified presence in the herbicide market.

Industry Insight: Domestic Companies Seize Opportunities in the Bio-Breeding Herbicide Market
With the continuous global expansion of transgenic crop cultivation, the application potential for herbicides like glyphosate and glufosinate in bio-breeding has significantly increased. Currently, China has registered 30 bio-breeding herbicide products, including glyphosate isopropylamine salt, ammonium salt, potassium salt, and glufosinate, from over 20 companies. These include multinational giants like Bayer and Syngenta, as well as domestic technical leaders such as Xingfa Group and Wynca, and glufosinate specialists like Lier Chemical.

The strong entry of Liben Crop and Good Harvest into the bio-breeding herbicide market—leveraging their technical expertise, robust industrial chain support, and extensive registration portfolios—will not only enhance the competitiveness of domestic players in this sector but also accelerate the industry’s transition toward internationalization and high-end development. As transgenic crop adoption progresses, companies with technological and production advantages will gain greater initiative in this blue-ocean market.
